propaganda for the whole trade.

There is a chance to-day for the most
progressive draper in every town to make his
shop known as the “ Artificial Silk Shop ”
of the town. This will give him a great
advantage over his competitors. Just as
Liberty’s—the famous shop on Regent Street,
London—became known throughout the world
as the one best shop for real silk goods, so
there is now an opportunity for other shops
to become known as the best places to buy
the new Artificial Silk goods. ~ At least one
drapery shop in every town can emulate
Liberty’s, and make its windows radiant with
brightly-coloured garments that are cheap as
well as beautiful.

An immense demand has sprung up in the
United States for Artificial Silk dresses that
retail for two guineas. These are made by
mass production. Fifty are cut at a time
by electric cutting knives. The sewing costs
4s. 2d. They are sold by manufacturers at
21s. to 24s. They are made of weighted
crepes-de-chine, crepes-georgette, etc. A
woman who formerly bought one real silk
dress for six guineas can now have three
