THE STORY OF ARTIFICIAL SILK
Artificial Silk dresses for the same price.
And tens of thousands of women who could
not afford to buy real silk dresses are now
buying these new mass production dresses.
Great Britain is at present the best market
for Artificial Silk goods, as we buy more
per capita than any other nation. In 1924,
we imported £20,000,000 worth, but now
that a tariff has been put on, new mills are
springing up in Great Britain. In 1927, the
British people bought and used nearly
33,000,000 lbs. of Artificial Silk goods. This
was an increase over the previous year of
more than 50 per cent. But we are still
importing almost as much as we export.
In my opinion, Artificial Silk goods will
have a magical effect upon the people of
India, China, Africa and South America,
perhaps even upon the people of Russia,
when they escape at last from their oppressors.
Artificial Silk brings bright and beautiful
clothing for the first time within reach of
people who are very poor. It offers them
silk—S1Lk that has been worn only by the
Thon families—the very emblem of royalty
itself.
