THE STORY OF ARTIFICIAL SILK
The use of cotton cloth in India has risen
from 11 yards per capita to 13. The natives
of India have been slowly growing more
prosperous. Suppose India swings from
cotton to Artificial Silk ! Suppose 300,000,000
people demand 13 yards apiece |
There are the same vast possibilities in
China, which has 400,000,000 people, who
have up to the present time been clothed
in cotton. India and China together con-
tain nearly one half of the human race.
They are the largest potential market in
the world for Artificial Sill
In these two populous countries, the mass
of the people want little and consequently
work little. They work in an inefficient
way, with hand tools. They have a low
standard of living. But now that it has
become possible for a native in India or
China to clothe himself and his family in
shining silk, it is likely that he will become
more efficient and industrious. One new
thing leads to another. The standards of
living will be raised all along the line.
The WANTS of one half of the human race
will be increased—think what this means
