HOW ARTIFICIAL SILK IS MADE
HE making of Artificial Silk is a new
process—so new that there are no
-. words in any language to describe it.
In order to describe it, I shall have to use old
words In a new way.
There are only two lines on Artificial Silk
in the latest large Dictionary—"‘ Collodion
made into threads by being forced through
very small apertures.” Only eleven words to
describe the most important new industry
in the world, and this definition is already
somewhat out of date.
The making of Artificial Silk is a technical
process, full of secrets. No outsider is allowed
to enter a factory where it is being made.
And no one but a chemist, or rather, one
chemist out of ten, can understand the tech-
nical books that have been written on it.
