With regard to (1) Administration, the increase in the numbers
of staff is due to the increase of work under the Teachers
Superannuation Acts. Apart from numbers the increase in
cost of salaries after 1914-1915 is due—
(4) To “cost of living bonus” amounting to £60,990 in
1919-1920, to [216,229 in 1921-1922 (the “peak” year), and
£123,003 for 1926.
(4) To changes in Civil Service scales of salary and reorganisation
of higher staff, which increased the salary cost by [46,000 and
£16,000 in 1921-1922.
As regard the other heads the increase is due to bonus and
improvement of salary scales, to the opening of the new Victoria
and Albert building in 1909 and the extension of the Science
NM useum.
