It will be seen from the above table that wages at Essen are comparatively
high, Kepresenting wages at Berlin by 100, the level of wages of skilled men in
the engineering trades and of labourers in both the building and engineering
trades is indicated by an index-number of 99. The index-number for skilled men
in the building trades is, however, much lower, viz.—83. In the printing trades
