WILL-POWER IN BUSINESS Co
One of our most successful British business
men—a man who fought his way up from
poverty to wealth by his own efforts, went in
middle life into the social whirl. He secured a
title. He hobnobbed with titled people. He
made a hobby of sport. He travelled abroad.
All would have been well if he had not at
the same time tried to continue to manage his
company. He had always managed it as a
dictator and he continued to be dictatorial. As
you can see, this was disastrous to his company.
It soon ceased to make profits. Eventually, to
save its life, he had to let go of it. He had
weakened the Purpose-will by means of which
he had built up his company. A new Purpose
had been formed in his mind.
So, it is evident that a man can create his
will-power as much as he can create his
character or his knowledge. He can select the
group of concepts which he wishes to take
control of his mind. He can strengthen this
group. by taking action, by reading books, by
observation, by concentrating his attention
upon the subject that he has selected.
His Purpose-will at first may be weak and
often overcome by fears and doubts, but as
he gathers information and experience it will
steadily become stronger.
