Bookbindmg.—The standard time-wage for bookbinders, as stated in the
Table, is 25s. for a week of 54 hours. The books of a firm employing 118 men
of this trade, however, showed that the majority of these men earned 35s. per
week of 54 hours in October, 1905.
Woodworking Trades.—Cabinetmakers form one of the largest groups of
skilled labour in pianoforte and music-box manufacture, and their standard
time-wage is 25s. bd. for a week of 53 hours. The hours actually worked in
the pianoforte trade are 53^, in which cabinetmakers on piece-work earn from
30s. to 40s. For men of the same trade employed in music-box manufacture
the predominant piece-work earnings are from 30s. to 32s. in 54 hours.
