pleases bound for seven years, the eldest son excepted, who shall be at 
liberty as a journeyman at twenty years of age, and not before. — 
IV: — That any boy or girl going as an apprentice, to learn the 
art or mystery of silk weaving, shall be bound under an indenture for 
seven years (not being above sixteen“ years of age) and that one’ month 
only be allowed for the trial of both parties, that is to say, the master 
and the intended apprentice; at the end of which month, if not before, 
he or she shall be bound upon the King’s stamp made and prepared for 
that purpose, either for half of what they earn, and all bounties abolished, 
or for bed and board according as the parties shall agree, but the time 
shall not be allowed previous to their binding; and if the master shall 
object to bind such boy or girl, he shall make his objections known to the 
men appointed for that purpose, and shall immediately put him or 
her from his service nor shall he receive any allowance for his trouble; 
and if such boy or girl shall be put from two gsuccessive undertakers, such 
boy or girl shall not be suffered to work at the business of silk weaving 
(without first being deemed proper by the men appointed for that pur- 
p0SE), — 
But if the intended apprentice shall object to be bound to his or 
her master, the objections shall likewise be made known; and if it shall 
appear, that his ör her objections are plain and clear, having good ground 
for such conduct, then he or she shall be at liberty to choose a second 
master, who may have a vacant place for such apprentice; and the second 
master shall make immediate recompense to the first master, or if the 
first master shall think proper, the second master shall have the liberty 
to give a promissory note of hand, on a Stamp, provided at his own ex- 
pense, that he will pay or cause to be paid, within the space of one 
month, such a sum of money as the men appointed for that purpose may 
ileem proper, to the first master, for the loss he may have sustained in 
;eaching or instructing the same boy or girl. 
The second master also, shall within the space of one fortnight 
after taking such boy or girl, bind the same for seven years, upon the 
King’s stamp, either for half of what he or she shall earn, and no more, 
and all bounties abolished, or for bed and board, or disband the same; 
nor shall the same boy or girl be suffered (without first being deemed 
proper by the men appointed for that purpose) to work at the brauch of 
silk weaving again; but if the objections shall appear frivolous or litigious, 
not having good ground for such conduct, then he or she shall either 
serve his or her first master, or shall not be suffered to work at the 
business of silk weaving; and if any undertaker shall have the audacity and 
assurance to take such boy or girl, after being disbanded, he shall be liable to 
such penalty as the men appointed for that purpose may deem proper, 
and he shall likewise put the same boy or girl from his service. —
