The Table below shows the predominant prices paid by the working 
classes in October, 1905, and March, 1907. It will be seen that in the 
intervening period there was little change in the price of beef, some rise in 
mutton and in veal, and a fall in the price of pork. The cuts of beef mostly 
bought cost in October, 1905, from 6Jd. to 8|d. per lb. ; steak, costing 11 d. to 
Is. Id., is seldom bought. Mutton ranged from 7\d. to 9|d., rising to lie/, for 
chops, which, again, the working-man’s wife does not buy. Veal cost from 
7fd. to Is. and pork from Id. to 10^d., except chops, which cost 1 Id. to Is. :—
