57 
(8) If he is the holder of another office and is 
required to discharge the duties of that office while 
acting, he may receive :— 
(a) If the offices are distinct and separate 
offices in different departments, or. do not 
stand to one another in any immediate re- 
lation of superiority or subordination, half the 
initial emoluments of the office in which he is 
acting, together with the whole of his emolu- 
ments in his substantive office; 
(b) In any other case, the emoluments 
which he would receive if his case fell under 
(2) above. 
For the purposes of this regulation :— 
(1) An officer’s emoluments include salary, duty 
allowance, personal allowance, expatriation allow- 
ance (in Palestine), and any other allowance not 
being in the nature of an allowance for out-of- 
pocket expenses (travelling, transport, subsistence, 
and forage allowances). 
(2) The emoluments of the office means the 
same as the foregoing with the exception of per- 
sonal allowance. 
This regulation does not apply to Huropean officers 
in Tropical Africa. 
55. The fees, if any, of the vacant office will be 
dealt with by local regulation. 
56. Should the officer whom the Governor has 
appointed to act in a vacant office or appointed 
provisionally thereto be confirmed therein, he will be 
entitled to draw the full salary of that office, if avail- 
able, from the date on which he entered on the duties, 
but from the date from which he draws such full 
salary he will not be entitled to salary on account of 
any other office which he may have held at the same 
time.
