The Company was established on the 10th April, 1919, succeed-
ing the Self-Insurance Department of the Mitsubishi Gioshi Kaisha.
The history of that department which covered a period of nearly
ben years is one of success and prosperity. During the world-wide
war, however, the facilities of the department were found to be
inadequate to cope with the expansion of the Mitsubishi Companies,
while the demand for reliable insurance companies was felt in the
open market.
Under these circumstances the new insurance company was
established and commenced business on the 10th June, 1919, with a
subscribed capital of Yen 5,000,000, of which Yen 1,250,000 has
been paid up, taking over all the business of the Self-Insurance
Department, and entered the open market of insurance business.
The Company’s underwriting consists of Insurances of Marine,
Fire, Transport and Automobile risks and their re-insurances. En-
joying the full support of the Mitsubishi Concerns, and their con-
nections, the Company is in the position of being able to adopt a
conservative attitude in the selections of business, and the Compa-
ny’s development has been brilliant and now has a reputation of
being one of the most reliable insurance companies of first class
standing in Japan.
Notwithstanding the considerable losses sustained by the Earth-
quake disaster of 1923, in the financial year ending 31st October,
1924 the Company has been able to increase its reserves by Yen
