That Bean Oil came to be recognized as a commodity 
on the world’s oil market in the West dates back only 20 
years or so. Prior thereto, its uses were limited to food, 
a source of light, and the lubrication of the wheel axles. 
The seope of its demand never went outside China. In 
the comparatively brief space of over 12 years, the utility 
of Beans has become expanded, as it is to-day, firstly 
because it can be produced at lower costs than other 
vegetable oils, placing it within the consumers’ reach at 
more reasonable prices. In the second place, Bean Oil 
has the characteristic of being available as suitable sub- 
stitute for food and industrial oils of almost all kinds.
