elapse between one conference and the next, thus facilitating the 
arranging of exchanges, and giving the officers concerned the 
advantage of knowing beforehand the place where their fresh 
experience was to be gained. 
It is thought that officers would loyally follow up the work 
entrusted to them on exchange; and that there need be no fear that 
a desire would exist to take undue credit for simply continuing the 
work and observations devised and begun by another, or that there 
would be jealousy preventing the communication of observations or 
results not expected or foreseen when the work was devised. 
(13) COTTON SEED SUPPLY AND CONTROL IN UNION OF 
SOUTH AFRICA. 
(Specimen copy of agreement for season 1925/26). 
AGREEMENT entered into BETWEEN the DEPARTMENT 
OF AGRICULTURE, to be represented by the CHIEF, TOBACCO 
AND COTTON DIVISION throughout (hereinafter referred to as the 
Department) on the one part, and Mr. .:. ain Ee 
Of. oiihiossanaat (hereinafter referred to as the Grower) 
on the other part. 
1. "THE DEPARTMENT undertakes to supply the Grower 
with... dbs, Cotton Seed of the Improved Bancroft 
variety from Special Seed breeding plots of the Government 
TOBACCO AND COTTON EXPERIMENT STATION, RUSTEN- 
BERG, at 3d. per pound. 
9. THE GROWER undertakes to receive such seed and with it 
to plant a seed plot of ground which has been /or will be approved 
by the DEPARTMENT. 
THE GROWER undertakes: — 
~ To grow no other cotton within a distance of 500 yards from 
the seed plot and to keep a radius of 500 yards from the seed 
plot clear of any volunteer cotton plants. 
To carry out any reasonable instructions by the Department 
regarding cultural methods to be followed in the raising of 
the crop. 
To cultivate and generally care for the seed plot to the 
satisfaction of the Department. 
1, To allow and facilitate inspection of the seed plot at any 
time during the existence of this agreement by any person 
deputed by the Department. 
To keep different pickings separate and mark accordingly, 
also to keep an exact record of all pickings. 
4. In view of special care necessary in the ginning of th 
1 ¢ g of the crop, 
the DEPARTMENT reserves the richt of stipulating the ney 
to which the crop shall be sent for ginning. 
5. THE GROWER shall advise the DEPARTMENT of 
deliveries made and shall deliver at his expense the whole of the crop 
resulting from the seed plot at the Ginnery stipulated, packed in 
woolpacks clearly marked with: — 
(a) The GROWER’S initials. 
(b) The words *‘ Government Seed.” 
(¢) The number of the picking.
