nur 5626 Tlr. zur Wirtschaftseinrichtung auf Regulierungsländereieu er- 
halten, Farenheid allerdings 38000 Tlr. zur Schuldenablösnng und 
8000 Tlt. als Kulturkapital. Aber von dem Manne, der nach dem Kriege 
vor seinen Schuldnern nach Polen hatte fliehen müssen und dessen Güter 
1824 schon einmal in landschastlicher Sequestration gestanden hatten, wird 
sich kaun, behaupten lassen, daß er einer Unterstützung nicht benötigt hätte % 
Die Unterstützungskapitalien mußten mit 4% verzinst^) und nach fünf 
Jahren in festen Raten zurückgezahlt werden. Allen Versuchen, die Zins- 
und Rückzahlungen zu umgehen, hat Schön entgegengearbeitet. „Die Worte 
Niederschlagung und Stundung darf ich in der Landes-Unterstützungssache 
nicht statuieren, ohne in Absicht der Zinsenzahlung die Landschaften vollends 
zu lähmen." In Notfällen hatte Schön, der in Ostpreußen stets bemüht 
war, Geldleistungen durch Naturalleistungen zu ersetzen, die Möglichkeit 
sich offen gehalten, statt der Zahlungen Arbeiten ausführen zu lassen. Die 
Gutsbesitzer, die nicht zahlen konnten, sollten z. B. eine gewisse Anzahl 
Steine zun, Chausseeban anfahren lassen oder mit ihren Leuten bei Ent 
wässerung eines Sumpfes oder Sees Hilfe leisten. Etwa 60000 Taler sind 
daraufhin durch Arbeiten an den Straßen Königsberg-Bartenstein, Königs- 
berg-Quednau, Preußisch-Holland-Elbing, Stargard-Czarlin abgetragen 
worden. Es wurde ferner verstattet, die vom Staat verteilten Schafe in 
natura zurückzugeben. Wenn sich aber einzelne Gutsbesitzer wegen völligen 
Erlasses des Unterstützungskapitals unmittelbar an den König wandten, 
hat Schön immer widerraten, den, Gesuche stattzugeben „des sehr nach 
teiligen Beispiels wegen". An seinem Widerspruch sind z. B. in den dreißiger 
Jahren mehrere derartige Immediatgesuche des Landschastsdirektors 
Ben eck endorf von Hindenburg gescheitert, der im Jahre 1824 für 
Neudeck einen Vorschuß aus den, Unterstützungssonds erhalten hatte% 
In einen, Fall, in den, der König den Erlaß der Zinsen schon in Aussicht 
gestellt hatte, schlug Schön eben „des Beispiels wegen" vor, den Betreffenden 
die Zinsen zwar zahlen zu lassen, ihn, aber in gleicher Höhe eine Summe 
aus dem Unterstützungsfonds anzuweisen. 
Mit einem Verlust von etwa 25% bei den Rückzahlungen hatte Schön 
aber von Anfang an gerechnet. Auf seinen Antrag wurde schließlich durch 
Kabinettsordre vom 26. April 1831 den Gutsbesitzern gestattet, die Unter 
stützungskapitalien zu 66^3% abzulösen, und 1837 der Zinsfuß von 4 auf 
3% herabgesetzt. Aus der Schlußabrechnung von, 12. August 1834 geht 
hervor, daß bis dahin von den 1% Millionen Talern der fünfte Teil wieder 
') Böhme S. 78: 8 Farenheidsche Güter im Kaufwert von 546500 Tlr. waren 
1819 mit 394040 Tlr. verschuldet.
