At present, the arable area in Manchuria is put at
about 22,400,000 “‘cho’” (being slightly over 22 per cent
of the total area). Half of this area has already been
reclaimed, leaving the other half or 11,000,000 ‘““cho’’ still
to be reclaimed. What has been reclaimed during the past
10 years is estimated at about 2,300,000 “‘cho’’, giving the
annual average of 280.000 ‘““cho’ a year.
Let us now denote the cultivation percentage of Beans
by 27, figuring the per 300 ‘“‘tsubo’’ harvest at 1 “‘koku’.
The annual rate of increased production of Beans may be
placed at 620,000 ‘“‘koku”’ on 62,000 ‘“‘cho!’ of the new
Bean field.
On such bases of calculation, the increase attained
during the past 10 years comes up to 6,200,000 “‘koku’.
At this pace, 10,000,000 “cho” of the entire wasteland
being supposed to be converted into arable land, the total
reclamation work will be accomplished in about 40 years.
The consequent increment in Bean production will amount
to 27,000.000 “‘koku’’ or thereabouts. This being added
up to the present total production of 83.000.000 “koku’’ in
1926, by the time the existing wasteland has been com-
pletely reclaimed, the aggregate Bean outputs of Manchu.
ria are to reach rouchly 60.000.000 “‘koku’”’
