Total domestic consump-
tion in Manchuria ......
Exports abrad ................
Total ........
20,700
13,120
53.820
Export amount for 1925-1927.
Remarks :—1 ‘“‘kokn’’ of Beans has been converted into 221 kip
in the above table.
From the above table, we may estimate the grand
total Bean outputs of Manchuria to be 83,200,000 *‘koku”’
of which the net local consumptions for food, cattle feed,
and seed Beans are only 6,120,000 “‘koku’’, but 14,560,000
“koku’’ corresponding to about 43 per cent of the total
production is used at the Bean mills, the remainder,
13,120,000 ‘‘koku’’ (40 per cent of the total production)
being exported as Beans.
80-00 per cent of Bean Cake and Bean Oil put out
at the Bean mills is exported to China proper or foreign
countries. Therefore, about 76 per cent of Manchurian
Beans, inclusive of what is exported in the form of Beans
and such as is made into Bean Cake and Bean Oil repre-
sents the exports to China proper and abroad (the major
portion of Bean Cake is exported to Japan as manure, and
the bulk of the Bean Oil to Europe).
The above will give a pretty fair idea of what an
important role is being played by Beans and the Bean
milling industry in the economic circle of Manchuria.
