Bei dieser Zusammenstellung ist die hochentwickelte Web in dus trie Berlins 
in Baumwolle, Wolle, Seide und Halbseide, die sehr ausgedehnte Production 
von Wäsche und Confectionsartikeln, von Kleidungsstücken, Lederwaaren, 
Luxusartikeln u. A. m., die der Wasserfracht nur wenig Frachtobjecte liefern 
werden, unberücksichtigt geblieben, vielmelm sind nur alle solche gewerblichen Branchen 
aufgenommen worden, deren Rohstoffe, Halb - und Ganzfabrikate bedeutend in s 
Gewicht fallen und deshalb den Wassertransport gern benutzen. 
In wie weit ferner der Bezug von Nahrungsmitteln aller Art durch 
leistungsfähige Wasserstrassen erleichtert wird, beweist die Versorgung von Paris durch 
dessen Canäle unmittelbar vor der Einschliessung der Stadt durch die deutschen 
Heere im Jahre 1870. Nach dieser Richtung hin kann und wird der Elb-Spree-Canal 
für die Versorgung Berlins mit den Consumtions-Artikeln der Haushaltungen an Heiz 
materialien, Getreide, Gemüse, Fleisch u. s. w. sehr wohlthätig einwirken. 
Besondere Erwähnung verdient noch der wichtige Artikel: böhmische 
Braunkohlen. Die Production der böhmischen Braunkohle*) am südlichen Abfall des 
Erzgebirges betrug im Jahre 1860 nur erst 341638 Tonnen, 1870 bereits 1795 526
