1320. Marx an Engels; 1869 November 18.
18. November 1869.
Dear Fred,
irischen Pamphletband (speziell Ensor of some value),
2. „Social-Demokrat“ und „Volksstaat‘“, 3. 3 copies für Dich,
Moore und Schorlemmer des Report’s on the Basel Con-
gress.
2, weil in dem Report ihm (i. e.
durchgefallen.
Letzten Dienstag eröffnete ich die Diskussion über Punkt Nr. 1, ?
las Verhalten des britischen Ministeriums zu
[rish Amnesty Question. Hielt Rede von about */4 Stun-
den, much cheered, und schlug dann on Punkt Nr. 1 folgende Re-
zolutionen vor.
Resolved,
that in his reply to the Irish demands for the release of the
imprisoned Irish patriots — a reply contained in his letter to
Mr. O’Shea etc. etc. — Mr. Gladstone deliberately insults the Irish
Nation;
that he clogs political amnesty with conditions alike degrading %
to the victims of misgovernment and the people they belong to;
that having, in the teeth of his responsible position, publicly
and enthusiastically cheered on the American slaveholders’ Re-
bellion, he now steps in to preach to the Irish people the doctrine
ȣ passive obedience;
that his whole proceedings with reference to the Irish Amnesty
Juestion are the true and genuine offspring of that „policy of
sonquest“, by the fiery denunciation of which Mr. Gladstone
Justed his Tory rivals from office;
that the General Council of the „International“
Workingmen’s Association“ express their admiration of
the spirited, firm and highsouled manner in which the Irish
people carry on their Amnesty movement;
