Geldmenge und Waarenpreise. 
immer nur unter der Voraussetzung und insoweit 
wirklich Geld auszugeben oder Waaren zu kaufen be 
reit, als eben diese Verausgabung von Geld oder dieser 
Ankauf von Waaren unter den obwaltenden Umständen, 
d. h. in dem betreffenden Zeitpunkt und an dem be 
treffenden Orte und für die betreffenden Personen, noch 
mit einem bestimmten Nutzen oder Vortheil verknüpft 
ist^-*), gerade so, wie auf der anderen Seite ja auch 
die Geneigtheit Waaren zu veräussern in concreto nie 
mals weiter geht, als bis zu dem Punkte, wo eben 
diese Veräusserung von Waaren unter den obwalten 
den Umständen für die betreffenden Personen noch mit 
einem bestimmten Nutzen oder Vortheil verbunden ist, 
54) So bemerkt auch schon J. Locke a. a. 0., p. 71: ,,A’o 
body lays out bis money in them {commodities) but according to the 
use he has of them, and that has bounds.** 
Ebenso auch J. Stuart Mill — im Widerspruch mit sei 
ner anfänglich aufgestellten allgemeinen Theorie — Principles 
p. 318: ,,The amount of purchasing power which a person can 
exercise is composed oj all the money in his possession or due to 
him, and of all his credit. For exercising the whole of this 
power he finds a sufficient motive only under peculiar 
circumstances.** Ferner : ,, The i nclinat io n of the mercantile 
public to increase their demand for commodities by making use of 
all or much of their credit us a purchasing power, depends on their 
expectation of profit.** p. 322: „IFhen the state of trade 
holds out no particular temptation to make large purchases 
on credit, dealers will use only a small portion of the credit-powers.**
