CHEMICAL EXTRACTION SYSTEM :
The oil contents of Beans are extracted by means of
a chemical solvent, chiefly benzine or benzol. It is the
latest process, the only mill based upon this system in
Manchuria being the Honen Oil Mill, Dairen (formerly
known as the Suzuki Bean Oil).
SECTION III.—ADVANTAGES & DISADVANTAGES
OF DIFFERENT PROCESSES
(1} WEDGE, Screw & Hypraviic SysTEMS COMPARED
The wedge system is the most obsolete, and for all
oil-expressing and other operations practically manual
labour with animal help is depended upon. While it has
only a small producing power, it wants a comparatively
large area of land for the factory and working ground.
Now that Bean Cake and Bean Oil have risen as com-
modities of worldwide demand and require quick and
extensive production, to cheapen the producing costs by
extensive manufacture, a thing like the wedge system may
be regarded to have outgrown its usefulness.
Actually all the large-scaled mills at the chief centres
on the S.M.R. Lines have become mechanicalized, the
hydraulic system mills occupying the majority, as might be
easily expected.
