of the Party. He argues that our Party must be a
Party of the masses, but he has opened wide the
door to every opportunist and has stretched the
boundaries of the Party to complete difusion.
Under present conditions, this represents a great
danger, because it makeg it very difficult to draw
a line of demarcation between a revolutionary and
an idle talker. That is why we must make the conception
 of the Party narrower. Martov’s mistake is that
he opened the door widely to every passer-by, when
it has been discovered that even one-third of those
present at the Congress were merely hangers-on.
In this instance, Martov displayed opportunism.
His formula introduced a false note into the rules;
every member of the Party must be under the control
 of an organization so that the central committee
 may have access to every single member of the
Party.
My formula created a stimulus to organize.
