THE STORY OF ARTIFICIAL SILK
Artificial Silk industry is new, there are no
hidebound men with old ideas in it.
“T think that the trade is waiting for two
or three branded names at reasonable prices,
which can always be obtained in every good
shop and up to date in style,” says Mr.
Fenwick. ‘ The opportunity for sales is only
beginning and will enormously increase in the
future. The public is still ignorant of the
marvellous effects obtained in household use,
such as curtains, upholstery, etc.”
Mr. P. A. Best, Managing Director of
Shoolbred’s, says: ‘ Artificial Silk is likely
to be the salvation of the English textile
industry. The only anxiety I have about it
is that, in common with so many other
industries, it is in danger of being exploited
by the financial wizards. Apart from this
menace, I predict a very fine future for it.”
Lord Rothermere says: ‘ Textiles are our
job. We have led the world in cotton goods,
woollen goods and linen goods. We make the
best quality of all three. To-day we are at
the beginning of a new era in the textile
trade, and England must act at once or drop
behind.”
