system will be acknowledged as the most commendable
one.
(¢) ADVANTAGES & DisapvaNTAGES oF RoUND CAKE SYSTEM
The round cake system or the hydraulic system, com-
pared with the two others, is the most primitive, considered
from both the oil rate and the quality of the residue. Why
this system predominates among the oil mills in Manchuria
at present is because of the following:
(1) Round cake system requires only simple equip-
ments and operation, thereby saving the cost of production.
(2) Round cake being hard and solid, it needs no
receptacle for transportation and storage. When laden in
the ship’s hold, it is easy to harmonize both space and
weight, since either can be readily regulated by the number
of pieces.
SECTION IV.—OIL MILLS IN MANCHURIA
Dairen and Harbin are the two places in Manchuria
that contain bean mills equipped with comparatively
advanced machines and which can supply bean residus and
bean oil as international commodities at moderate rates and
further in a large amount. For the rest, all still remain
on g nearly primitive footing, not being able to rise above
the stage in which the produces were meant chiefly for
local consumption.
