Leapine Canapian RuBBER MANUFACTURING COMPANIES.
Canadian Goodrich Company, Limited, Kitchener, Ontario.
This company was originally incorporated in 1919 as the Ames Holden
Tire Company, Limited. A new factory was erected and modern machinery
installed at a reported cost of approximately £260,000. The Company was
reorganised in January, 1923, as the Ames Holden Tire and Rubber Com-
pany, Limited, at which time The B.F. Goodrich Company of Akron, Ohio,
U.S.A., acquired a minority interest. Early in 1925, the Goodrich Company
obtained a controlling interest in the stock and the Company’s name was
changed to Canadian Goodrich Company, Limited.
Additions have been made to the factory since it was constructed, and
late in 1928 additional construction work was started. The machinery and
plant is up-to-date.
The Company manufactures tyres, including the ‘‘ Silvertown Cord ’’;
and the ‘ Hi-Press’ line of footwear, including Goodrich ‘¢ Zippers.”
These producis are well known throughout the United States and Canada,
and in the latter country enjoy the advantage of the large amount of
advertising done by the United States Company in American publications.
The Company maintains branches or warehouses in Halifax and Sydney,
Nova Scotia; St. John; Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Hamilton, London,
Windsor, Port Arthur, Fort William, Winnipeg, Regina, Saskatoon,
Calgary, Edmonton, and Vancouver.
Canadian 1.7.8. Rubber Company, Limited, West Toronto, Ontario.
This Company was incorporated in December, 1919, with an authorised
capital of £124,000 and has had a steady substantial growth. It employs
225,000, occupies floor space of 100,000 square feet and manufactures heels
and soles, bands and erasers, drug sundries, play balls, hard rubber baitery
boxes and hard rubber toilet seats. It maintains branches in Vancouver,
Winnipeg and Montreal, and does a considerable export trade. It was
organised by and is managed by Canadians, but the majority of its capital
is owned in the United States. It has a connection with the I.T.S. Com-
pany, Elyria, Ohio, U.S.A., minority of its shares being held by shareholders
of the latter Company.
The Columbus Rubber Co. of Montreal, Limited, Montreal.
The company was incorporated in March, 1912, with an authorised capital
of £82,000. The president holds a similar office in the Dominion Rubber
Company, Limited, and other officers are prominently connected with the
same concern, of which it may be regarded as a subsidiary. The Columbus
Rubber Company controls a leading connection throughout Montreal and
the Province of Quebec, and maintains branch offices at Ottawa. Toronto,
Winnipeg, Calgary, and Regina.
Dominion Rubber Company, Limited, Montreal (formerly Canadian Con-
solidaled Rubber Company, Limited).
The Dominion Rubber Company has its head offices at Montreal and five
branch factories. The United States Rubber Company owns a large interest
in the Dominion Rubber Company, Limited.
Dunlop Tire and Rubber Goods Company, Limited, Toronto.
Irom 1894 to 1899, the Dunlop Tire and Rubber Goods Company operated
in Canada under the title of The American Dunlop Tire Company, being a
branch of the American Dunlop Tire Company, of Belleville, which was con-
trolled bv The Dunlop Rubber Company. of Great Britain.
