Although the marked decline in imports in 1927, 1928 and 1929
shown in this table, is partly due to a change in the method of
recording the statistics (see the following paragraph), it is still more
ue to the joint effect of the recent establishment of factories in
the United Kingdom by oversea manufacturers and of the im.
position of a duty in 1927.
38. The following table shows the value of the imports into the
United Kingdom of all kinds of rubber tyres and tubes from the
six principal countries from which these are imported. Imports
‘rom Empire and foreign sources are also shown. The import
igures for the six countries may not be complete, as the returns
of the United Kingdom do not specify the imports from each of
these countries under all the headings, and there may consequently
be a small amount of imports from some of these countries included
under the headings ‘ from other British countries and ** from
other foreign countries.”” These amounts would be small enough
not to affect the total figures materially.
