Most of these activities are desirable; it, surely, is
obvious that the time devoted to actual teaching should
not be curtailed. This can only be done by increasing
the number of teachers of Science. The amount of
Science done in the schools must be increased also, and
the size of classes is often too big as it is. Sixteen boys
(on the average) are as many as one man can deal with
effectively in the laboratory.
A considerable increase of expenditure on the science
side of a school is consequently necessary, and the money
must be found. There are many directions, however, in
which financial wastage occurs in schools, and these will
be indicated later. The necessary money can probably
be found without placing any additional burden on the
parent.
