THE STORY OF ARTIFICIAL SILK
University, New York City, made the startling
discovery that Artificial Silk clothing admitted
the Ultra-Violet rays.
Cotton and woollen clothes are like armour-
plate to these rays. They bar them from our
bodies. Only our faces and hands are left
open to the rays that are necessary to perfect
health. When people wear broad-brimmed
hats and gloves, they are shut out completely
from these medicinal rays. Their bodies are
wholly in the dark, so far as these rays are
concerned.
As we all know, the human race grew up
in sunshine—sunshine that shone directly
upon naked bodies. For hundreds of thou-
sands of years the human race was a prac-
tically naked race. It enjoyed 100 per cent.
of the sun's rays.
Clothes have only been worn in compara-
tively recent centuries. First came the fig
leaf or some other leaf, and then the skins of
animals and then cotton and woollen clothes.
Naked bodies were covered up. And what
this has meant in weakness and disease we
are only beginning to realize.
After all, we have the same physical needs
