B.—THE INDUSTRY IN DIFFERENT COUNTRIES.
XV. THE INDUSTRY IN THE UNITED KINGDOM.

manufac-
“ures.
73. We now give short descriptions of the rubber manufacturing
ndustry in each of the principal manufacturing countries, taking
first the Empire countries and then foreign countries. We begin
with the United Kingdom. In our analysis of international trade
given in the earlier section of this Survey, the United Kingdom has
repeatedly occupied a prominent position as a destination of the
exports of other countries. But on balance the United Kingdom
is an exporter of rubber goods. This is clear from the following
table. Imports into the United Kingdom, however, in 1928, ex-
seeded exports in seven classes of rubber goods, in boots and shoes,
soles and heels, balls (other than golf or tennis balls), rubber
gloves, overalls and aprons wholly of rubber, vulcanite and ebonite
rods, tubes, sheets, ete., and toys, wholly or mainly of rubber.
[n all other varieties of rubber goods, exports exceeded imports.
The position in 1928 was as follows
