succeeded in making aluminium soap on the ground of Bean
Oil, naming it Tontalus after-the Greek mythology. It used
to be manufactured by the Dairen Solite Mfg. Co. till some
years ago. There is a future for a water proof of this kind.

(9) SuBSTITUTE FoR KEROSENE

The 8.M.R. Co. Central Laboratory has come to see a

ray of hope for an industrial success in the matter of manufacturing
 combustible oil as a substitute for kerosene by
subjecting fatty acid lime to dry distillation.
In this experiment, Bean Oil has been used as the
working base. This industry has not yet been raised to an
economically feasible basis, but since it gives glycerine for
a by-product, it permits of being raised to a commercially
negotiable level as a source of liquid fuel in time of need.

(10) SvussTiTUTES FOR INDIAN RUBBER, ETO.

Bean Oil or rape-seed oil treated with sulphur or carbon
petra chloride puts out a substitute for Indian rubber. It
is called factis and is employed as diluting agent for Indian
rubber of superior quality or for making Indian rubber of

industrial use.
