were in operation in October, 1905. In regard to these trades the information
was obtained by the courtesy of a number of the principal employers of labour
who furnished returns extracted from their paysheets. In those trades the majority
of the men worked as a rule on the piece-wage system, and the employer was
asked to state the amount most frequently earned in a full week without
working overtime.
