THE STORY OF ARTIFICIAL SILK
As yet, Artificial Silk has no name of its
own. The word “rayon” has not been
generally accepted, not even in America,
where it originated. Eventually, it will
have a name of its own. In fairness to
the great firm that is now supreme in the
Artificial Silk trade, it ought to be called
“ Courtauld.”
To-day, no one jibes at Artificial Silk. The
women who laughed at it eight years ago are
now clothed in it.
The dazzling Artificial Silk display at the
last British Industries Fair completely won
over all the doubters. It greatly fascinated
the Queen. She stopped almost breathlessly
in front of one of the stands and at once
selected a fabric for her own use. It was a
gorgeous fabric, of original design, in which a
scarlet Chinese vase was most conspicuous.
It was fit for a Queen.
At the last Cologne Fair there was the most
complete display of Artificial Silk goods that
has ever been shown in Europe. The stands
were crowded with mannequins and ““ Fashion
Queens.” There were many gorgeous pa-
vilions. Also, there was a clever pantomine
